QFA MASTER PLAN PROJECT

Qeshm Island is the largest of the free trade areas in Iran and is intended to be developed into a lare-scale industrial hub in the region. The establishment of Qeshm Free Area (QFA) in 1990 created the organizational basis for development. The preparation and adoption, at a later date, of administrative regulations and by-laws led to the establishment and reinforcement of the legal and administrative framework. From the very beginning, after the establishment of QFA, it was envisaged that the creation of a number of projects, some of which large-scale and complicated, and with potential for major impact on the Qeshm Island environment, providing information to foreign and domestic prospective investors to enable them to envisage and portray the future development of the Island, etc. would require that a framework be established for decisions on locations and project layouts. The establishment of this framework, and the presentation of required results of various studies to enable a prospective investor to visualize and portray the inherent and surrounding possibilities trend and rate of future development and population growth with due consideration to socio-cultural environment of Qeshm Island, is crystallized in the Qeshm Island Master Plan Project, which was carried out by SWECO, and internationally respected Swedish company.
